Mary L. Ferguson, age 86, passed away Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Sanford Hospital in Mayville.

Mary L. Gilles was born in Grafton, North Dakota on August 18, 1937 to George and Sophia (Bjerke) Gillies. Mary was an only child and grew up in Crystal, North Dakota and Graduated from the Crystal High School with the Class of 1956. She was raised attending the Methodist church and was baptized, confirmed and married in the Crystal Methodist Church. She played the piano for services, belonged to MYF, and attended Wesley Acres camp for many summers.

After high school graduation, Mary attended the University of North Dakota. She started working for the ND State Seed Department in Grand Forks, and also worked UND for 20 years.

Mary married Daryell Ferguson on June 17th, 1961, in the Crystal Methodist Church.

They made their home in Grand Forl‹s. They were blessed with two children: James and Diane. Mary and Daryell joined First Methodist Church in Grand Forks, which later became Wesley

United Methodist church. Mary spent many years teaching Sunday school, assisting and teaching bible classes. She was a part of the United Methodist Women (UMW) and was a UMW Executive Board President for four years. She also served as Treasurer, Secretary and Communication Coordinator. During this time, she received many recognitions and awards. She has also been a part of the Brownies/Girl Scouts, and Cub/Boy scouts. Mary is preceded in death by Daryell, and her parents George and Sophia Gillies.

According to Mary, church is a time to commune with God and fellowship. She felt that if she did not go to church, she felt like she missed something.

Mary is survived by her children, James (Rachel) Ferguson and Diane; two grandchildren, Kajon and Jaedon; three great grandchildren, Kymbirley, Jordan, and Lyle and numerous other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daryell Ferguson and her parents, George and Sophia Gillies.

The Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Amundson Funeral Home with visitation starting one hour prior to Funeral Service. Interment will take place following the service at Memorial Park South Cemetery in Grand Forks, ND.
