Marvin C. “Bud” Hein Marvin C. Hein, age 91, passed away Monday July 2, 2018 at his home in St. Thomas, ND, surrounded by his family. Bud was born September 17, 1926 in Grafton, ND, the son of Edward and Delphine (Lafromboise) Hein. At the age of 4 he was orphaned and raised by his aunt Hulda. Bud attended school in Grafton and enlisted in the US Marine Corps. He served during WWII and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart medal. Upon returning home he married Betty C. Davis on November 17, 1949. Bud worked at various businesses in Grafton before moving to Lankin in 1953 where he worked and became manager of the GTA Elevator. Bud and Betty raised their four daughters in Lankin. They moved to Grand Forks in 1975 and Bud became a field manager for Harvest States Grain. Bud retired in 1993. He enjoyed his earlier years with all his longtime friends going on hunting and fishing trips, and with his family on many glorious days at Morris Point teaching his girls to love the water and catch fish. In recent years one of Bud’s fond memories was his Honor Guard Flight to Washington, DC with his fellow veterans and his winter trips to Texas with his daughter. Bud was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. Thomas, a Lifetime Member of the American Legion, The Marine Corps League, VFW, and Eagles. He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Larson, St. Thomas, ND, Susan Martell, Las Vegas, NV, and Adele (Lawrence) Burianek, Grafton, ND; grandchildren, Lisa Oby (Norman Hurst), Brandon Oby, St. Thomas, Morgen (Scott) Shaff, Denver, CO, Nathan (Gina) Martell, Las Vegas, Brent (Marcela) Larson, Fontana, CA, Nicole (Nick) Echler, Las Vegas, Anthony (Kellie) Burianek, Grafton, Lori (Marc) Mohagen, East Grand Forks, MN, 9 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margaret Curran, Thief River Falls, MN; son-in-law, Dave Ingram, Las Vegas; and several nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; a daughter, Barbara Ingram; grandson and wife, Jeremy and Lee Hein; son-in-law, Warren Larson; his parents; 3 brothers, Edward, Jr., Wilfred, and Richard “Dick”; 2 sisters, Elizabeth and Genevieve Hein. Bud was the last surviving family member of his generation. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 20, at the St. Thomas City Cemetery on Cemetery Road, St. Thomas, ND. Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks is in charge of arrangements.
