Services for Marlys will be held January 29, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Marlys was born on May 3, 1934, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Max and Evelyn (Weber) Petersen. She graduated from high school in Harvey, North Dakota. She and her childhood friends called themselves the “Jabberwalkers” for their lively conversations while walking around Harvey. While working at Berg’s Department Store in Minot, Marlys met her future husband Oliver Molstad at a dance. Marlys and Oliver were united in holy matrimony on August 3, 1957, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Velva, North Dakota. The couple made their first home above the Soo Line Depot in Grano, North Dakota. Following the birth of their son Alan they moved to Alexandria, Minnesota, and welcomed their son Craig and daughter Connie to the family. They eventually made their family home in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Marlys worked at Discovery Place Childcare, in Thief River Falls, where she was a beloved reader to the children. She loved to entertain and spend time with her family and friends. She and “Ollie” were members of the VFW and Legion in TRF. She was an active mother and grandmother, attending the dance recitals, musicals, plays and sporting events of her children and grandchildren. After Ollie passed away, she moved to Grand Forks where she continued to be active – always up for an adventure – and navigating the city on the bus expertly. She loved Fourth of July fireworks celebrations at Alan and Nancy’s acreage outside of Grand Forks. Marlys is survived by her brother Larry (Vida Mae) Petersen of Bismarck; her children Alan (Nancy), Connie (Bob) Welch, and Craig Molstad; grandchildren Alexander Gerszewski, Alicia (Jake) Henly, Gunnar (Zoe) Molstad, and Georgia Molstad; and great grandchildren William Henly, Jackson Henly and Megan Gerszewski. Marlys was preceded in death by her mother Evelyn, father Max, and her husband Oliver. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
