Mark “Ziggy” Ziegelmann, 68, Grand Forks, ND passed away suddenly July 9, 2020 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.
Mark Otto Ziegelmann was born September 27, 1951 in Breckenridge, MN, the third of four sons of Harvey and Donna (Hanson) Ziegelmann. He grew up in Wahpeton, ND and moved to Grand Forks in 1960, attending Viking Elementary School, Schroeder Junior High, Central High School, graduating from Red River High School in 1969. He enjoyed playing hockey as he grew up and was a co-captain of the Red River hockey team of 1968-1969. He coached Grand Forks Park Board youth hockey for a number of years.
Mark spent several summers working on a dairy farm while living with his special uncle and aunt Earl and Darlene Ziegelman of Great Bend, ND where he learned at an early age what hard work was all about. This experience instilled in him his strong work ethic. After attending UND from 1969-1970, Mark began his career in the construction industry. He worked for multiple area contractors and eventually began his own business, Mark Ziegelmann Construction. Due to injuries sustained in a vehicle accident, he retired in 1998.
Mark was united in marriage to Linda Gregoire on April 20,1974 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Forks. He and Linda raised two children, Ben who was born in 1977 and Kelly who was born in 1979.
Mark enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing pinochle and Texas hold’em, attending auction sales and going to garage sales. He was always looking for a deal! He could fix almost anything and thoroughly enjoyed tinkering around with tools and was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors. He had a sense of adventure and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a love of pickup trucks, trading them so often that the insurance agent couldn’t keep up! He and Linda purchased a travel trailer and parked it at Devils Lake and later at Stump Lake where Mark enjoyed the many friendships he made and cruising around in his golf cart. He had a gregarious personality and will be missed for his sense of humor, quick wit and strong work ethic by those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Being strong willed, he was never afraid to stand up for what he believed in.
Mark is survived by his wife Linda of 46 years, son Ben and daughter Kelly, all of Grand Forks; brothers and sisters-in-law Terry (Kathy), Rochester, MN and Rick (Erin), Grand Forks; sister-in-law Carol Sawyer, Madison, WI; brother-in-law Jim Gregoire, Williston, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
