Marilynn Trostad, 79, Grand Forks, ND, passed away at Altru Hospital with family by her side on November 25, 2022, due to complications from cancer and treatment. She fought a long tough battle with MBC and multiple myeloma.
Marilynn Helen Hanson was born in McVille, ND, on December 12, 1942, to Hans and Myrtle (Sanden) Hanson. She was the youngest of three children. She grew up in McVille and worked at her parent’s drug store graduating from high school in 1960. She married Obert Trostad on July 1, 1960, and she was his “Boo Boo.” They lived in various places and finally settled in Grand Forks where they made their home. They raised their five daughters and one and only son in the white house on Westward Drive. Marilynn was the ultimate caregiver. Besides caring for her six children and 17 grandchildren, she also cared for her mother for many years and later for her brother Terry. She took in several of her children's friends over the years and later cared for an elderly woman named Maybelle, with whom she formed a very close bond. Marilynn devoted her life to her family. She loved attending their school and sporting events. She enjoyed baking and would often come up with a new treat based upon what she had in the cupboard. She loved making her traditional Norwegian items at Christmas time and sharing them with her family. She enjoyed country music along with 10 years of WeFest, Elvis Presley, crosswords, and a little gambling.
Marilynn is survived by her husband Obert; daughters, Karen Deziel, Kathy (Gary) Klang, Cindy (Paul) Andrade, and Tracey Trostad; son-in-law Paul Castoreno; grandchildren Aaron (Taylor), Dylan, Jamey, Josh (Amy), Jon, Tara (Andrew), Jenna (Jimmy), Shawnee (Luke), Cody (Gio), Toby, Dusty, Jonathan (Ellen), Justin, Maxx, Brody, Emmi, and Irelynn; great-grandchildren Dawson, Serenity, River, Rocky, Brixton, Braxton, and Hazel; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and several dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Gregg, oldest daughter Pam, grandson Jared, sister Anita, brother Terry, son-in-law Donny along with many in-laws.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Altru Cancer Center where she made many friends over her 12 years of treatment. In addition to the staff at Altru Cancer Center, we would like to thank VSL, HRRV, and Altru Hospital especially those who took such good care of her on her final days.
A celebration of Marilynn’s life will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022, at Amundson Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Amundson’s. Interment will be at a later date at Resurrection Cemetery in East Grand Forks.
We would like to invite all family and friends to gather at the Prohibition Room at Spud, Jr. in EGF beginning at 3:00 p.m. for a luncheon and continue to honor Marilynn’s memory.
