Marilyn L. Wilkens, 79, Grand Forks, ND, died Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at her home.
Marilyn Louise Wilkens, the daughter of Xaver and Sophia (Feldsmeier) Gertsbrei, was born on May 29, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. She was raised in the Detroit area and graduated from a local Catholic high school.
Marilyn and her husband, Raymond D. Wilkens, were married for over 46 years. After several moves, they settled permanently in Grand Forks, ND in 1976. They worked together owning Charlie’s Bakery for many years. Marilyn also worked and retired from UND as the clerical “Girl Friday” at the UND International Center. She enjoyed this job very much. She enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycle with her husband, and she loved ice cream. Ray often ran out and got her and her beloved dog, Danny, Dairy Queen. Blizzards and caramel shakes were her favorites.
Marilyn had a huge family that will always love her and that she loved dearly. She will be missed dearly by her husband, Raymond D. Wilkens, her daughter Lynnette Williams (husband Scott Williams), she is now rejoined with her deceased son, Raymond DePotie Jr. She very much loved and tried to be the best mom she could be to her stepdaughters; RaeLee Briske, RaNae Aaker, and Rhonda Wilkens.
Her family is large, so hang in there. She would want everyone to know all the family she loved and cherished.
Grandchildren: Tarah and Leah Williams, Michael (wife Michelle) and Randy Van Camp, Krista, Kendra, and Kyler Briske, Kristal and Rick Fladeland, Zach and Elijah Aaker, and Brianna and Brittney Pokrzywinski.
Great grandchildren: Traysen and Raleigh Van Camp, Bryce, Brayden, Brooklyn, Brenna, Brody and Bria Snobl, Brekkyn Hoffman, and Paisley Fladeland.
Sister, Theola (husband Jim) Buchman (both deceased). The Buchman children, Laura (deceased) Ken (wife Peggy), and Ron Buchman.
There are so many more that Marilyn loved. Her entire life has been dedicated to doing for others and those she loved. She will be dearly missed.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2021 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. The family respectfully asks those in attendance to wear masks. The burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Rural Ada, MN.
