Marcia Ann (Slominski) Hjelmen, 65 of Grand Forks, was called to heaven on Sunday, January 31, 2021, after being hospitalized in Surprise, Arizona. Marcia was born on May 23, 1955, the daughter of the late Henry and Yvonne Slominski. Marcia was born in Grand Forks and lived her early years on a farm near Ardoch where she attended early elementary school at St. Stanislaus in Warsaw ND before moving to Grand Forks and attending school at St Michaels, Valley Jr High and Central High School; She later moved to Glendale, AZ with her parents and siblings and completed her education while working various jobs. She moved back to Grand Forks and married Craig Hjelmen; they started their family and raised three sons, living in Grand Forks and briefly in Great Falls, Montana. Later, Marcia and Craig built a cabin on Island Lake which later became their home; there is where she enjoyed having her children and grandchildren visit; She was known for her hard work and dedication to her her family, eventually dedicating her working years to the family tile business, until her retirement. She spent winters in Surprise, AZ where she looked forward to having family visit. Marcia is survived by her husband Craig, and her children, Jamie (Shannon) Hjelmen of Denver, CO, Joe (Amber) Hjelmen, East Grand Forks, MN; and Chad Hjelmen, Grand Forks,ND; Sisters, Brenda (Trent) Nikle, Elk River, MN; Loree (Ron) Garritson, Grand Forks, ND; brothers Terrance Slominski, Elk River, MN; and Scott (Pam) Slominski of Grand Forks, ND; 5 Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Marcia was preceded in death by her parents. There will be a private service at Amundson Funeral Home on Thursday, February 11; Burial will be determined at a later date.
