Marge Endrud

January 2, 1937 — May 29, 2024

Grand Forks, North Dakota

Marge Lou Endrud passed away on May 29, 2024 in Grand Forks, ND. Marge was born January 2, 1937 in Northwood, ND to parents Ernest and Gladys (Swenson) Hegre of Northwood.  Marge grew up in Northwood and attended Northwood High School where she was active in many activities. She attended and graduated from Mayville (ND) State Teachers College majoring in Music and English. She taught both subjects early in her teaching career. While in college Marge met and married her husband of 50 years, Selmer (Sam) Endrud, Jr. of Mayville, ND. Marge and Sam would marry and live in Hatton and Oakes and settle into the Fargo, ND area for most of their lives. They raised two children Melanie and Steven. Sam died in 2009 after which Marge moved to Menomonie Wisconsin for 5 years prior to returning to North Dakota in 2019 to live in Grand Forks.     Marge was blessed by her 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, and she would prove to be an ever-present source of love and encouragement for them through the years.

Marge held a love for the Lord Jesus through her entire life and lived as a witness and testament to Him. She was an active member at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fargo for nearly 50 years, as well as the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.  Marge was blessed with a love for music and this love would be a theme that would ring through her life. From her first big stage piano solo performance on the WDAY Radio Westinghouse Talent Show in 1950, to being a music teacher and a private piano instructor for many decades. After several years of teaching, she chose to devote herself to her children, ultimately returning to serve as secretary at Jefferson Elementary School in Fargo.  She served thousands of children and supported countless faculty and student teachers in that capacity from 1977 – 1999. After retiring Marge and Sam would begin retirement years together remaining active in their church, traveling and visiting relatives and close family friends. Marge is remembered for her gracious and courteous spirit, and her steadfast friendship to those whom she met along the journey of life.

Marge was preceded in death by her husband Sam, her parents Gladys and Ernest and siblings Eloise, Gordon and Vernon.  She is survived by her children Melanie (Peter) Hoistad of Grand Forks, ND and Steven (Robyn) Endrud of Menomonie, WI., grandchildren; Rachel (Zach) Jones of Fargo, ND, Allie (Brett) Penny of Grand Forks, ND, Kaia Endrud of St. Paul, MN, Annika Endrud, Moorhead, MN, Soren, Leife and Solveigh Endrud all of Menomonie, WI.
