Lyle W. Beiswenger, age 87, of Grand Forks, died Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society in Larimore, North Dakota.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2025, at the Amundson Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Forks, North Dakota with Pastor Jared Carson officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Lyle Wallace Beiswenger was born June 19, 1937, in Fisher, Minnesota to William and Ida (Ross) Beiswenger. He graduated from the Fisher Country School in 1955 and continued his education at the University of North Dakota, where he earned a bachelor's degree in accounting. Lyle enlisted in the United States Army on November 5, 1958, and was honorably discharged on October 24, 1959. On August 31, 1963, Lyle was united in marriage to Judith Schanilec at St. Mary’s Church in Grand Forks.
Lyle started his professional accounting career in 1964 at the Grand Forks Air Base before joining the University of North Dakota. In 1983, he was appointed Vice President for Finance. After 32 years of dedicated service to UND, he retired in 1998.
Lyle loved cheering on UND sports teams, both at home and on the road. He had a passion for hunting and fishing with his sons, going on family vacations, and traveling with Judy to all 50 states. As a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he treasured every moment with his family. Some of his happiest times were the simplest—watching his grandchildren’s sporting events, sharing laughter with Judy from his recliner, and playing cards. Lyle also loved his computer and enjoyed challenging his friends to online games of Parcheesi, Cribbage, and Words with Friends. Lyle’s warm presence and caring nature will be deeply missed.
Lyle is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy Beiswenger; daughter, Penny (Mike Carr) Cieklinski; sons, Bill Beiswenger, and Mike (Brenda) Beiswenger; grandchildren, Luke (Chasie Fontaine) Cieklinski, Noah (Kayla Horner) Cieklinski, Cody (Kylie) Beiswenger, Laney (Blake) Kemnitz, and Natalie (Nick Eriksmoen) Beiswenger; great-grandsons, Finley and Oakes; sisters, Alice Gray and Marian Hauglid; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ida; 3 sisters; 2 brothers; and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
