Lowell J. Matejcek, 76, Grand Forks, ND, died Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.
Lowell James Matejcek was born on July 5, 1943 in Devils Lake, ND, the son of Edward and Yvonne (Williamson) Matejcek. Lowell attended schools in Brocket, ND and Lakota, ND where he graduated from high school in 1961. He attended NDSU at Fargo, ND, and later the Humboldt Institute in Minneapolis, MN. Lowell married Phylis Olson on December 21, 1985 at Lakota Lutheran Church.
Lowell worked most of his life in road construction. In his retirement, he kept busy employed at Ralph Engelstad Arena as Team Services and Special Events Parking Coordinator beginning in 2007. Lowell enjoyed cooking and traveling, including trips to London, Italy, Hawaii, Alaska, and several trips to New York City. Lowell was an avid UND hockey, football, and basketball fan.
He supported The Minnesota Twins and Vikings if they won and couldn't watch if they lost.
Those grateful for having shared his life are the love of his life, Phylis Matejcek, Grand Forks; son, Frank Matejcek, daughters, Lindsay , Paula, Valarie brother, John (Sharon) Matejcek, sister, Dianne (Wayne) Hoeschen, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all of his loving friends he held so close to his heart.
Lowell will be greatly missed. The outpouring of prayers, thoughts, and love by his family and friends will make our loss a little easier to bare.
Private services are being held Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. The Celebration of Lowell's life will be held at a later date to be announced. Please text, email, or send your favorite memory of Lowell so that we can share it on that day.
