Louella L. Renz was born on October 13, 1936, at home in rural Hazelton, North Dakota. She was one of nine children, born to Christopher and Adeline (Reich) Renz. Lou was baptized on August 15, 1937, in the Glencoe Presbyterian Church and was confirmed on March 9, 1952, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. Lou attended a small rural school and graduated from Warren High School in 1954. After high school, Lou worked at various restaurants including the Fargo Café, The Golden Hour, Miller’s Bakery, and ultimately dedicated 15 years to the Grand Forks Public Schools Child Nutrition Program, from which she retired in 2000.
On August 31, 1957, Lou was united in marriage to Ralph Tack at the First Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. They were married 67 years and blessed with 4 children. Together they enjoyed traveling and square dancing throughout their years. She was fundamental in raising her family and caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and cherished every moment together, whether it was planting flowers, baking, reading, doing puzzles, or simply finding joy in creating memories together.
Lou is survived by her husband, Ralph Tack; children, Rebecca (Danny) Guseman, Edwin Tack, David (Nermita) Tack, and Audra (Bob) Burckhard; 7 grandchildren; Jessica (Joshua) Westra, Kelcey (Taylor) Burry, Spencer (Ana) Tack, Alec (Myah) Burckhard, Michayla (Jacob Mehlhoff) Burckhard, Colleen (Jonathan Jones) Guseman, and Aaron Tack; 7 great-grandchildren, Joel, Jace, and Josilyn Westra, Esmae and Elaina Tack, James Burry, and Abel Burckhard; sister, Dianne (Ervin) Lindgren; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Christ and Adeline; sisters, Marie Albaugh, Leona McCarl, Clarabelle Hendrickson, Emma Jean Albaugh, Lillian Schwartz, and Irene Roquet; and brother, Richard Renz.
Lou’s faith was a guiding light throughout her life, and while her joyous spirit will be missed by many, we take comfort in knowing she is with her Savior Jesus Christ.
