Lorraine D. Hallan passed away at Valley Senior Living on Columbia on January 15, 2021, at the age of 91.
Lorraine, known to all as Lolo, was born in Steele County, North Dakota, to Conrad and Clenora (Halvorson) Sondreal, whom she loved very much.
Lolo was a long-time resident of Grand Forks, and she spent many enjoyable summers at her cabin on Maple Lake. Ever the gracious host, she entertained and fed friends and family—especially her beloved grandsons. She will be remembered for the laughter she brought to people, and for her food. Lolo never met a stick of butter she didn’t like. Her cinnamon rolls and buns were world class.
She is survived by her sons, Dan and Greg Austreng; daughters-in-law Debbie and Heidi Austreng; grandchildren Matt, Andy and Maria Austreng; and great-grandchildren Ella, Maverick and Maizie Austreng. She is also survived by a brother, James Sondreal; step-children Gregory Hallan and Julie Howe; and step-grandchildren Eric Howe, Tyler Howe and Caitlin (Howe) Kanski.
Lolo was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Marjorie Frye, Cameron Sondreal, Donavon Sondreal, Gloria Wheeler and Betty Hanson. Also preceding her were husbands Bernie Kobetsky, Vern Austreng and Clarence Hallan.
