Lorraine C. Amundson, 93, Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021 in Grand Forks.
Lorraine Cecelia Staveteig was born May 18, 1927 on the family farm near Thompson, ND, the daughter of Ole and Mabel Staveteig. She grew up and attended schools near Thompson and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1944. Lorraine earned her teaching certificate from the University of North Dakota. She taught school in one room schoolhouses near Thompson and Reynolds, ND. She later graduated from Aaker’s Business College and worked as a secretary in the State’s Attorney’s office in Grand Forks. She also worked for several years at First National Bank in Grand Forks.
Lorraine married Byron Amundson on April 29, 1959 in Warren, MN. They lived in Grand Forks where Lorraine devoted the next number of years to raising their four sons.
In 1976, Lorraine and Byron founded Amundson Funeral Home. She was an instrumental part of the development and operation of the funeral home for many years.
Lorraine was a gracious and kind woman who always tried her best and accepted life’s changes as they were presented to her. She was always up for a good visit and a friendly game of Dominoes. Lorraine was also well known among family for writing poetry. She thoroughly enjoyed vacations, especially at their lake cabin on Long Lake NE near Bemidji, MN and at Sanibel Island, Fl. The highlight of her life were her grandchildren and getting to meet her first great grandchild.
Survivors include her children; Phil (Shelly) Amundson, Roger (Kim) Amundson, and Mark (Julie) Amundson, all of Grand Forks and Erling (Judy) Amundson, Newport News, VA; grandchildren, Anna, Greta, Paul (Jenn), Scott (Karlie), Matthew, Alyssa, Joshua, Andres and Elena: great grandchild, Kollin Byron Amundson, (and one more on the way); siblings, Robert Staveteig, Deloris Sanden Landerville, Grand Forks; sister-in-law, Betty Staveteig, Thompson, ND and several nieces and nephews.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Byron; and by siblings, Ervin, Lloyd and George Staveteig.
Lorraine’s family wishes to thank the many caregivers at Wheatland Terrace, most of who she knew by name, Dr. Josh Deere, Dr. Chris Henderson and the staff at Valley Transitions.
The funeral service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at United Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks. The service will be available via livestream on United Lutheran Church Facebook page. Covid protocols will be followed. Memorials are preferred to be directed to United Lutheran Church or to Valley Senior Living on 42nd Wheatland Terrace.
