Lloyd Ordean Staveteig, Grand Forks, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed from this life into the arms of his precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, June 9, 2020 at the age of 95.
Lloyd was born to Ole and Mabel Staveteig on August 9, 1924, the second of six children. He went to Walle #77, a one-room schoolhouse for the first eight grades and graduated from Central High School at the age of 17 in 1942. While entertaining thoughts of becoming a pilot and taking flying lessons in Grand Forks and Crookston, he gave up this dream as he was needed on the family farm. Farming was his lifetime occupation, growing wheat, barley, corn, oats, potatoes, sunflowers, soybeans, and navy beans. In the early years, he also worked winters as an apprentice electrician for Iverson Electric and Laiser Electric in Grand Forks.
Lloyd married Beulah Sanden on June 4, 1950 at West Walle Church. They celebrated 70 years of marriage as of last week. The marriage was blessed by four daughters, Bette (Dennis) Salter, Appleton, WI, Lois (Bob ) Stroh, Fergus Falls, MN, Debbie (Gary) Hagen, Mayville, ND, and Sharon (Del) Mattson, Eden Prairie, MN, followed by 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Lloyd was a man of many talents and interests. He enjoyed occasional weekends at a family cabin on Pine Lake, jointly shared with four of his siblings. His children, nieces, and nephews would remember him cooking pancakes for the whole crew, taking shifts around the table. Lloyd and Beulah were members of the Skirts and Shirts square dance club for 32 years. Upon retirement, Lloyd took up golf, photography, enrolled in a Norwegian class at the University of North Dakota, spent winters in Texas at Alamo Palms, and became a highly crafted wood carver, delighting his family with many Scandinavian trolls. Lloyd loved his Norwegian heritage and was active at the Sons of Norway until the age of 90. Lloyd and Beulah were charter members of Calvary Lutheran Church, active in attending services and supporting building projects as well as missionary projects until moving into assisted living at Wheatland Terrace in August of 2016. Lloyd attended 6am Bible studies with the men of Calvary at Perkins Restaurant, a few of them graciously providing rides.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Beulah; four daughters and sons-in-law; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; his brother, Robert Staveteig; sisters, Lorraine Amundson and Deloris Sanden Landerville, all of Grand Forks; sister-in-law, Betty Staveteig, Thompson, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his brothers, Ervin Staveteig and George Staveteig; and granddaughter, Francis Mattson. Blessed be the memory of Lloyd Staveteig.
