Lloyd Vernon Hillier passed away at age 99 on April 4, 2020 in Peoria, Arizona with his wife Beryl at his side. Lloyd was the son of Charles and Minnie Hillier of Hoople, N.D. Lloyd is survived by his wife Beryl, his children Robyn (Wes) Ofstedal, Kerry (Dick) Rosman, John (Anne) Hillier, Jim (Kelly) Hillier, Jerry (Loretta) Hillier, and Beverley Hillier Paron; his sixteen grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; a sister Francis Hilllier, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his parents, his brothers Kenneth and Marcel Hillier, a sister Elizabeth Hillier Dekker, and sisters-in-law Alouise Hillier and Inez Hillier.
Lloyd was born in Grafton, N.D. December 13, 1920, and grew up in Hoople, N.D. where he attended grade school and high school. Lloyd still has family farming in Hoople. He continued his education at North Dakota Agricultural College in Fargo, N.D. until joining the United States Air Force in 1942. There he became a pilot. In 1946 he was discharged from the Air Force and went on to complete his engineering degree at North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D. He was active in the Kappa Sig Fraternity.
In 1949 Lloyd married Beryl Bailey from Hallock, MN. He then began working for Minnkota Rural Electric Cooperative in Grand Forks, N.D. He worked for Minnkota Power his entire career and retired as Assistant Manager in 1988. He loved his job.
Lloyd served his community in many ways. He represented his district on the Grand Forks City Council for four years, including two as President. He was very active at Augustana Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, serving on their council, and on the Board of Valley Memorial Homes. He and his wife were original members of the Grand Forks Curling Club and enjoyed that sport very much. Lloyd enjoyed watching his children’s activities, and was an avid hockey fan of both Grand Forks Central HS and UND.
In 1997 Grand Forks had a disastrous flood that took their home. They relocated to Sun City, Arizona for the winters, spending summers at their cabin on Island Lake, MN. Though Lloyd left Grand Forks over 20 years ago, he always considered it home. Lloyd enjoyed married life with Beryl that lasting 70 years, and a long retirement. Thanks be to God!
