Lil Denney

Lillie “Lil” Denney, 90, Grand Forks, ND, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021 in Hearthstone Memory Care in Valley Senior Living on 42^nd.

Lillie Ann Aasen was born November 24, 1931 in Grand Forks, the daughter of Lewis Aasen and Marie (Hannestad) Aasen. She was raised in Grand Forks and graduated from Central High School in 1949.

Lil married Duane Denney on February 4, 1950, in Crookston, MN. They lived in Crookston for a short period of time before moving to Grand Forks where they raised their family. Lil worked as a teacher’s aide and later for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co.

Lil cherished family.  She created many opportunities for family to come together to play, provide comfort, or celebrate, always accompanied by delicious food and desserts she prepared with love.  Lil loved her roles as daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother and was a favorite aunt of many.  As husband and wife, Duane and Lil had a strong and loving partnership for over 71 years, and he was a source of smiles and comfort throughout.  

Lil enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, roller skating and dancing.

Survivors include her husband, Duane, Grand Forks; children, Ann Denney, Fargo, ND, Diane Bowen, Grand Forks, Dale (Nancy) Denney, Sioux Falls, SD, and Alan (Sheila) Denney, Grand Forks; grandchildren, Christopher (Brooke) Magdzinski, Jessica Bowen (Ray) Deck, Hannah Bowen Coblentz, Natalie Bowen (André) Stjernen, Whitney Bowen, Stacy (Darren) Lembke, and Jason Johnston; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ronald James; a great grandson, Christopher Hageman; and by brothers and sisters, James, Eileen Pincombe, Lois Trimborn, Roland, Rueben, Robert, Rose Greenberg, and Katherine Pederson.

Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Monday, November 29, 2021, at Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the funeral home.
