On December 5, 2019, our father, Leroy Knutson along with many others, left this world for the next.
The success of a man is measured by his character, conduct, the betterment of his life, and those they hold dear. Our Dad passed away taking those measures with him. Leroy was born on March 21, 1937 to Oscar and Olene (Thompson) Knutson in Grand Forks. His father Oscar died when he was sixteen years old. As the only child, he took it as his responsibility to see his mother was provided for. He obtained the usual marked moments of baptism, confirmation, graduation and other accolades throughout his life. However, he did not revere these as notable of mention. Leroy loved and married Virginia Sattler on October 21, 1955 at St. Michaels Catholic church in Grand Forks, ND. From this union three daughters were born; Carol (Kevin) Solem of Grand Forks, ND; Jean (Jeffrey) Hjelseth of West Jordan, UT and Cheryl (Rod) Eckhoff of Shakopee, MN. Our dad was a lover of many things in life; music of all kinds, dancing, hunting, riding snow cats, fishing whenever he could, tooling down the highway with our Mom, Virginia, on their Honda Goldwing motorcycle, and playing golf. He loved a well-made “Manhattan” while relaxing on the deck of their lake home in Morson, Ontario, Canada. As a child who grew up with little means, his determination, perseverance, and dedication lead to great success in his work ventures, retiring after 31 years from United Hospital as Director of Materials Management and Processing. He was director over three departments and 80 employees whom he adamantly declared to be the best of the hospital! His greatest joy was seeing the accomplishments of his daughters and their families. Leroy leaves behind the love of his life, Virginia of 64 years, his three daughters, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
There are no words to express our utmost gratitude to the Altru Hospice staff who have blessed us abundantly through our father’s journey toward end of life.
In lieu of flowers we ask that memorials be sent to Altru Hospice P.O. Box 6002, Grand Forks, ND 58206-6002
