Leona C. Wysocki, 98, Grand Forks, and formerly of Minto, ND, died Sunday, December 30, 2018 in Valley Memorial Homes Eldercare Center, Grand Forks.
Leona Ceclia Zon, the daughter of John and Bertha (Knapkiewicz) Zon, was born in Walshville Township, rural Warsaw, ND on November 22, 1920. Leona was raised and educated in Minto, ND. She married Ambrose H. Wysocki on January 24, 1942 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Minneapolis. Leona lived in Minneapolis for a short time and returned to Minto to join her husband upon his discharge from military service. Together with her sister-in-law she owned and operated a café in Minto for a period of time. Leona also worked at Ann & Lorry’s Dress Shop in Minto, and several other jobs before her many years as a resident attendant at the Grafton State School until she retired in 1990. Leona enjoyed handiwork, crossword puzzles and reading. She liked her homes clean and everything shining. Leona had a strong Catholic faith which she shared with her children. She was a women her children are proud to call their Mother.
Leona is survived by her children, Carol Walski, Minto, Betty (Jack) McDonald, Grand Forks, Clarion J. “Rusty” (Jan) Wysocki, Grand Forks and Therese Wysocki (Fred Ward), Denver, CO; grandchildren, Donald and David Tibert, Tom, Tim, and Katie McDonald, Jake Olson, Caroline Wysocki, Erin Campbell, and Peter Wysocki; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Loretta Miller, East Grand Forks, MN; brother, Alfred Zon, Medford, OR; sister-in-law, Irene Zon, Grand Forks; many nieces and nephews. Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ambrose; daughter, Linda; and brothers, Edward, Joseph, Richard, John, Ernest and Florian.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Minto, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church, with a Rosary at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Minto.
