Leila (Gowan) Farder, 97, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020 at Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN.
Leila was born September 1, 1922 in Walshville County, ND to Roy and Lilly (Clausen) Gowan.
On March 17, 1943 Leila married Orville Farder in Rural Oslo, MN where they farmed for many years, moving to Grand Forks in 1967. She was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible School, and Confirmation Classes. She worked and studied with Lutheran Women Today and also Christian Women and led the Stonecraft Study in her home.
She was a lifetime seamstress. Leila enjoyed gardening, oil painting, and crocheting. Her Christian faith and family were the most important to her.
Treasured memories are left with her children, Lenaye (Darryl) Quern of Fisher, MN, Terry (Charleen) Farder of Grand Forks, and Tamra (Allen) Olson, of Anthem, AZ; grandchildren, Stacey (Joel) Asp, Shannon Quern and Brent (Melissa) Quern, Jodie (Darin) Johnson, and Naomi (Joe) Kapaun; great-grandchildren, Daniel and Andrea Asp, Dylan and Lilly Quern, Jayden Johnson, Grant, Kolbie and Gavin Kapaun; brothers, Robert (Betty) Gowan and Gary (Pat) Gowan; sister, Lily Gulas; two sisters-in-law, Eunice Gowan and Lola Gowan.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Orville; her parents; brothers, Frank, Willis, Roy, Chuck, and Jim; and sisters, Delores Jamieson, Lois Ronan, and Elaine Farder; two grandsons, Troy Allen Olson and Nathan Grant Farder; and great-granddaughter, Katie Marie Johnson.
Private Funeral Services were held in Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks. Interment was in Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks.
A Memorial Service for relatives and friends will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2020 in Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, attendance will be limited to 125 people, masks will be required, and there will be no reception. A link on this page to a recording of the service will be available after the memorial service.
Memorials are preferred to the Hospice of the Red River Valley, Villa St. Vincent, Crookston, MN, or Calvary Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.
