Lee Haugen

July 13, 1950 — February 14, 2020

Lee Arnold Haugen of Grand Forks, North Dakota passed away Friday, February 14, 2020 from a massive heart attack. He Was 69 years old.  Lee is survived by his wife of 46 years Brenda, his son Christopher, Daughter In Law Alisa (Wippler} . Four grandsons; Aaron, Tegan, Logan & Ryker, all of Grand Forks.

Lee worked at GF Coca-Cola as the District Sales manager until his retirement in 2008, before that he was the manager at the Spud Bar(‘72-‘77) in East Grand Forks. He also delivered pizza for Mike’s Pizza in EGF. He met Brenda in the spring of 1972. They were married on November 23rd 1973 in Mott, ND. Brenda was given the best birthday gift ever when they welcomed their only son Chris on November 7th 1981.

Over the years Lee & Brenda worked together on everything they did, and followed Chris through his many activities as a kid. They were very active in Pack 162 Cub Scout program from den leader up to the Pack leader. Then Lee joined Eric Bakke and Bob Alvestad as they took on and ran a Bambino baseball team, while following their sons Chris , Mike & Tommy playing baseball. When Chris went on to play soccer, Lee & Brenda again became very active in the SunFlake soccer club for many years and they were vocal supporter for helping the league become what it is today.

The thing that gave Lee the most joy was managing the Grand Forks Stallions Hockey club for twenty years, creating hockey memories and experiences for over 500 young men and hundreds of families in the Grand Forks metro area. The Stallion hockey team played across the state of ND and MN averaging 45 games a year; and they went to every one of them. Lee was well known for his “cane”, just ask anyone on the team what that meant.  you never wanted to end up on the wrong end of the cane. You might have been faster than Lee, but he had a longer reach with the cane.  He was a black and white rules kind of guy, everyone knew where he stood on issues, good or bad he was respected because of it. It was because of this strong attitude that he joined the North Dakota Amateur Hockey Association as a board member in charge of Junior Gold teams in the state of ND.

This past fall Lee offered to help out our friends at the GF Cemetery association as a board member, he joked that he wanted to check out the best “spots”.

Some of his favorite times were at the lake. Lee and Brenda had dreamed about having a lake place since they were kids. In 2015 they were finally able to purchase a place at Stoney Point in Cass lake, the best part of it, was that it was near a lot of their friends.  Every weekend in the summer they would tool around on their pontoon, or spend time visiting friends on their golf cart and have campfires.

His biggest joy was his “boys”, he loved his grandsons and his son more than life itself. Every Wednesday for 7 straight years he would meet Chris and his grandsons and they would all go for lunch or a movie and hang out.

Lee was preceded in death by his Mother, Marjorie;, his father, Arnold,  and his Grandmother, Florence Racine.

He is survived by a sister, Leslie, New Brighton Minnesota; nieces, Jennifer from Breezy Point Mn and Debra Ann Albertville, Mn.
