Lawrence Patrick Herbert

July 4, 1944 — May 23, 2019

Lawrence “Larry” Patrick Herbert of Buxton, ND, and San Tan Valley, AZ was called to his heavenly father May 23, 2019. Larry was born on July 4, 1944, at Providence Hospital in Washington D.C., number 6 of 11 children to Earl T. and Lula E. (Clubb) Herbert. He went to several Catholic elementary schools and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1963 in Washington D.C. Larry enrolled in Temple School of Electronics in Washington D.C. where he learned the TV repair trade. During a house party in Alexandria, VA Larry met Donna, a North Dakota girl who moved to the area for work. They were married at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Reynolds, ND on July 24, 1965. They returned to the Washington D.C. area where Larry worked as a TV repairman. He later opened his own TV repair shop with friend Jimmy Davis called Omega TV in Landover, MD. During this time, they were blessed with Dawn, Sean, and Denise. The decision was then made to move to North Dakota. Larry was a hard worker and never passed up an opportunity to make extra money, long hours and side jobs were the norm for years. Jared was born in Grand Forks in 1973. Larry landed an entry-level position at American Crystal in Hillsboro, ND in 1974. He eventually worked his way up to Chief Electronic Control Technician. American Crystal sent him to further his knowledge and skills to places like California, Colorado, and more. Larry enjoyed his job and the many lifelong friends he made over the years. He retired after a stroke in 2007.

During the years of long work days, they decided to throw in building a house with the help of friends and family they moved into our rural Buxton house in 1978. Years later in 1990, again with the help of family, a workshop was added to the farm where many hours were spent tinkering, fixing, and socializing with a few cold ones.

Larry had many interests. Travel and a love of the ocean found them on lots of beach family vacations and cruises. He enjoyed classic car shows and cruising around in his ’63 Chevy Impala and ’64 Ford Galaxy convertible. He was very proud of them. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time teasing the grand and great-grandkids and getting on the floor to play. No one could pass by while he was sitting down without hearing, “hey, do my shoulders.” He loved working with his hands. He refurbished many furniture pieces, and when fixing he never gave up until the job was done or called on assistance from Jared.

He is survived by his wife Donna; his children, Dawn (Mike) Nadeau, Sean (Deanna) Herbert, Denise (Brent) Crabtree, Jared (Terri) Herbert; brother Jerome; sisters Elvie, Mary, Yvette; grandchildren TJ (Jennifer), Chelsey (Kristoffer), Declan, Seraphina, Ryan, Hope, Carson, Cayla, Crystal; great-grandchildren EJ and Meliah, Emmitt, and two more on the way.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Lula Herbert; brothers Thomas, Robert, Paul, Mark, and John; and sister Debbie; father-in-law and mother-in-law Alvis and Arlene Schultz.

Larry’s wishes were to be cremated and no fuss made over him. Love you sweetheart and miss you!
