LaVonne Mary Johnson, 87, was called home to heaven on December 17, 2024.
LaVonne was born to Martin and Alice (Evenstad) Jenson and grew up in the Halstad and Borup, Minnesota area. She graduated from Borup High School and, in 1955, married Kermit Jensen. Following Kermit's service in the military, the couple lived in various cities, including Borup, Lisbon, Moorhead, and Fargo, ND.
As a devoted mother, LaVonne embraced her role as a stay-at-home mom until their four children were old enough to attend school. At that point, she returned to the workforce. The family eventually settled in Grand Forks, ND, where LaVonne spent 27 years working at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine.
In 1978, LaVonne married Al Johnson, and together, they enjoyed a fulfilling retirement after her retirement in 2005. They spent their winters in Apache Junction, AZ, and their summers in Grand Forks. For the last two and a half years, LaVonne had been a resident of Valley Memorial Home in Grand Forks.
LaVonne is survived by her four children: Ken (Trish) of Oregon, WI; Carol of Ankeny, IA; Keith (Kari) of East Grand Forks, MN; and Christy (Garrett) of Chandler, AZ. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and her sister Marlene (Ron) Johnson.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alfred Johnson, and her brother, Ronald Jenson of Moorhead, MN.
LaVonne will be remembered for her warm heart, her deep love for her family, and the kindness she shared with all who knew her.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, December 27, 2024 in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the funeral home.
