Larry William Oas, 71, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully from Gallbladder Cancer on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. Larry was born on May 27, 1947 in Grand Forks, ND to William “Bill” and Leona (Stahlberg) Oas. He grew up in Oslo, MN before his family moved to Grand Forks, ND in 1962, where he later graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1965.
After graduation, he worked as a Photolithographer at the Grand Forks Herald for 17 years. In 1987, he purchased a delivery business, Discount Delivery Service, that he ran for 24 years until retiring in 2011. He married Shirley Houska on Feb. 21, 1968 in Veseleyville, ND. Together they had 4 children. He took great pride in all of the hard work he put into things, such as running his family business, meticulously manicuring his lawn and hedges, and raising 3 successful children.
Larry had a passion for playing horseshoes, as he loved competing in tournaments with his cousin Wayne Anderson and his son Bryan. He also loved cheering for his Minnesota Vikings and New York Yankees. Larry occasionally enjoyed “testing his luck” at the casinos. On any given night, you could find Larry grilling a steak, drinking a cold one, hanging out in his screen house, and keeping you laughing until the sun went down.
He was preceded in death by his son, Darryl; and his parents, Bill and Leona. He is survived by his wife; children, Rhonda (Rick) Johnson of Thief River Falls, MN, Brenda (Paul) Roecker of Victoria, MN, Bryan (Brooke) of Fargo, ND; brother, Ronald (Sandra) of Warren, MN; sisters, Shirley (Don) VanSickle of Warren, MN, and Karen (Rod) Wilhelmi of Erskine, MN; seven grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
