Kenneth John Nice, 80, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Friday, January 6th, 2023, from complications of Alzheimer’s with his wife and family by his side.
Kenneth was born on April 27, 1942, to Joseph and Bernice (Korynta) Nice on the family farm near Ardoch, ND. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic church. Upon completion of his education, he joined the Army National Guard.
Kenneth began his career at the Oslo Elevator. Upon moving to Grand Forks, he worked for many years in mobile home service. Once Joseph retired, Kenneth took over the family farm near Ardoch, ND. When he retired from farming, he stayed busy working harvest with his nephews, helped a friend with his mobile home business and worked as greeter and driver for Altru Health System before finally officially retiring in 2019.
Kenneth married Gloria Klava on March 5, 1962 and three children were born from this union. Kenneth married Nancy Haarsager on December 6, 1983 and gained two bonus children.
Kenneth was a lifetime member of the Manvel American Legion. He enjoyed playing Polish Poker, working on his Sudoku puzzle books, and watching Westerns.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy; three children, Tamara (Nice) Ebertowski, Mark Nice, and Scott Nice; stepchildren Leah (David) Smith, and Suraya (Dean) Rooker; siblings, Audrey Barta, Art (Debra) Nice, Felicia (Dennis) Gerszewski, Judy Kerr, Louise Gergowicz, and Mary (Donny) Johnson; 9 grandchildren; Samantha (Andrew) Baum, Alex Ebertowski, Casey (Danyelle) Nice, Cody Nice, Caleigh Nice, Natalia Nice, Benjamin Smith, Taylor Smith, and Layne Smith; 4 great-grandchildren; Logan Smith, William Baum, Eleanor Baum, and Scarlett Nice; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Thomas Ebertowski; brother-in-law, Hank Gergowicz; brother-in-law Christopher Kerr; and brother-in-law Arnold Amsden.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Lilac Homes in Dilworth, MN, and Red River Valley Hospice for making the last few weeks of Ken’s life comfortable.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to a local Alzheimer’s Association, Red River Valley Hospice, or any charity of their choosing.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023 in Sharon Lutheran Church, 1720 S. 20th St., Grand Forks with visitation one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be at a later date at St. Thomas, North Dakota.
