Ken Hallgrimson, born April 8th, 1928 peacefully passed away on March 27, 2025, surrounded by family who cherished him deeply. Ken was foundational to his family, a pillar of strength and wisdom.
A devoted husband, Ken shared an extraordinary 69 year journey of love and partnership with his beloved wife, Barbara. Their marriage was an inspiring testament of dedication, compassion, and unwavering support.
A proud veteran, Ken honorably served in the United States Navy, where his experiences deepened his innate leadership and protective nature. Returning home, he poured his passion into coaching, mentoring countless students in football, basketball, track and field, cross country, and golf! He shaped student's lives beyond the playing fields with his engaging personality and strong, guiding presence. An avid golfer, Ken impressively achieved many hole-in-ones. He was also a respected high-ranking member of the Elks Club, contributing significantly to its social and community initiatives. Recognizing the need for greater opportunities, Ken founded the Jamestown Jimmie Scramble to support Jamestown University and also directed the UND Booster Band to enrich and support university spirit and established the girl's golf program at Red River High School, championing equity and excellence in athletics.
Always curious and well-educated, Ken possessed a sharp intellect and. opinionated spirit that kept conversations lively and insightful. He was as comfortable discussing sports strategy as was delving into the nuances of music, sharing his talents generously as a skilled musician. An athlete at heart, his active life inspired generations of his family, creating treasured memories.
Ken was known not only for his wisdom but also for his humor and sarcasm, always quick with a joke or witty remark. He was the type of father every child should have; loving yet strong, supportive yet protective, a figure who could simultaneously guide, and comfort.
Ken's legacy endures through his loving family, including children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who carry forward his lessons of love, resilience, and integrity. While the family deeply mourns his passing, they take comfort knowing Ken is now at peace, reunited with Barbara and loved ones.
Ken Hallgrimson leaves behind not only memories but a powerful legacy of love, laughter, and life lessons. He will forever remain a cherished figure in the hearts of all who knew him.
There will be a family directed Celebration of Life at 1:30 p.m. on June 27, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Forks.
