Kathleen “Kay” Flom, 84, died Wednesday, April 17, 2024 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, surrounded by her family.
Kathleen Diane Nelson, the daughter of Victor and Margaret (Chilton) Nelson, was born on November 18, 1939 at Fargo, North Dakota She grew up and attended school in Fargo, graduating from Fargo Central High School in 1957. Kay married Gerald D. “Jerry” Flom on October 24, 1959, in Fargo. They lived in Fargo until moving to Grand Forks in 1964.
Kay enjoyed playing cards and was known to be a master at putting puzzles together. She had a very active lifestyle, bowling in a league for many years at Red Ray Lanes, loved to travel, and was an excellent cook. She was also an avid fan of UND sports. Kay was a longtime volunteer at Calvary Lutheran Church where she generously donated her time. She also was a volunteer at Altru Health Systems for many years.
Kay is survived by her children, Tim (Shelly) Flom, of Las Vegas, NV, and their children, Alexis Flom and Brandon Flom; Cindy (Scott) Meland, of Grand Forks, and their children, Michaela (Alec) Hepper and son, Harrison Hepper, McKenzie Meland, and Brady Meland; and Chad Flom, Grand Forks; brothers-in-law, Neil (Sue) Flom, Detroit Lakes, MN, Rod Stave, Hillsboro, OR; sisters-in-law, Idell Flom, West Fargo, ND, and Betty Nelson, of Aurora, CO; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers, Jerry Nelson and Richard “Dick” Nelson (Rachel), and a son, Scott Flom.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2024 in Calvary Lutheran Church, 1405 S. 9th St. Grand Forks. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service in the church. A reception in the church fellowship hall will follow the service. Interment will be in Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks. Memorials are preferred to Calvary Lutheran Church.
