Karen A. Holte, 84 of Grand Forks, North Dakota died Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Edgewood Vista, Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Karen Holte was born in Grand Forks, ND. Having attended schools in Detroit, MI, Faribault, MN and Devil’s Lake – she graduated from Gallaudet University in Washington, DC with a degree in Library Science. Upon graduation she pursued her passion at UND’s Chester Fritz Library, where she worked for 40 years.
Karen was a very private person, but never missed a chance to share a smile in passing. Her spunky sense of humor made her a favorite in her short time at Edgewood Assisted Living, where she made an impact on the staff and helped several take an interest in learning sign language. An endowment will be set up in her honor to teach American Sign Language (ASL) to assist those in caregiving roles/careers.
Karen is survived by her brother, Jim (Brenda) Holte (MN), her sister, Barbara Holte (CA), several nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jonas “Joe” and Borghild “Bud” Holte, and sister and brother-in-law, Al and Kay Pearson.
Per Karen's wishes, there will be no services. If you would like to honor Karen, please make a donation in her name to the Chester Fritz Library at the University of North Dakota or to Gallaudet University in Washington, DC.
