Joyce LilyAnn (Sorteberg) Kuster passed away as a result of a tragedy in her home on Saturday, February 15, 2020. She was born January 31, 1930 to Elmer and Ruth (Severson) Sorteberg in Grand Forks, ND. She attended school in Grand Forks and continued her education in Moorhead to receive a teaching degree.
In addition to teaching grade school, she substitute taught at Central Valley School for several years.
She married Elroy Gohdes in 1950 and together they welcomed three children Karen, Kristi, and Kayann while living near Reynolds.
She married Myron Kuster on July 3, 1975. They lived on a farm near Bygland, MN while she was a secretary for St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Grand Forks. They moved back to North Dakota where they ran Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery for 20 years and Kuster Wagon Wheel Stables for 27 years. In addition to work, she most loved crafting, painting, and taking care of her many cats. She also enjoyed the outdoors where she could care for her flowers and feed the birds.
She is survived by her children: Karen Schlenvogt, Kristi McFarland, and Kayann (Pat) Rarick; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 niece Sara Moreland.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Myron, her parents, sister Vonnie Moreland, and great-granddaughter Calla.
Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 24, at Amundson Funeral Home with visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Interment: later spring, Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
