John F. Olderbak

John F. Olderbak, 80, Grand Forks, ND, died Monday, April 27, 2020 at Valley Senior Living on Columbia, Grand Forks.

John Francis Olderbak was born February 13, 1940 at Cathay, ND, the son of Edward and Anna (Fritel) Olderbak. He was raised and educated at Rugby and at Grand Forks where he graduated from St. James High School. He worked at area several bars before serving his country with the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam. Following his service, he moved to Whapeton, ND to attend the State School of Science. He returned to Grand Forks in 1953 and began working for American Crystal Sugar as an Electronic Technician, a job held until his retirement in 1996. In retirement, John worked as a truck driver and delivery person for CHS, and later CPS.

John enjoyed fishing and playing pool. He was very proud of the fact that at age 70, he could still do one arm pull ups. John enjoyed riding his motorcycle until 2010 when he was involved in an accident.

Survivors include his children, John (Joanne Olson) Olderbak, Grand Forks, Jeremy (Amy) Olderbak, Moorhead, MN, Melissa (Kelly) Heggen, Grand Forks, and Melanie (Robert) Sauter, East Grand Forks, MN; grandchildren, Tanner, Genna, Zachary, Grace, Alexis, Evan, Noah, Emily, Reese, and Hailey; Sister, Dolorus (Vernon) Krile, Fargo, ND; brothers, Jerome Olderbak, Grand Forks and James (Rogene) Olderbak, Doniphan, NE.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; his parents; and by a sister-in-law, Bonita.

Memorial Services will be private. A public celebration of life will take place at a later date to be announced.
