John K. “Keith” Johnson, age 91, resident of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024, in Altru Hospital.
Keith was born in Walhalla, ND, on July 30, 1933, to John S. and Veiga Johnson. He grew up on a family farm in Edinburgh, ND and attended school in Milton, ND. He worked for Jordan Construction Co. in Hensel, ND from 1951 to 1955. He took a three month leave to complete Army Basic Training in the summer of 1956. Keith soon started working part time as an Engineering Aide for the City of Grand Forks. In June of 1959, he started working full time as an Engineer for the City of Grand Forks. He was promoted in 1965 to Assistant City Engineer. He retired after 41½ years with the City of Grand Forks.
On June 19, 1960, Keith married Elizabeth “Jean” Christopherson. To this union three children were born: Patti, Wade and Mark.
Keith enjoyed spending time with his family, especially helping his grandchildren with arts and crafts. He also enjoyed: woodworking, square dancing, camping, trips and cruises, gambling junkets to casinos. Always traveling with friends and family, embarking on adventures and making treasured memories wherever he went.
Keith is survived by his loving wife, Jean of Grand Forks, ND; children: Patti (Mark) Maerz of Grand Forks, ND, Wade (Denise) Johnson of Grand Forks, ND and Mark (Shelly) Johnson of Moorhead, MN; four grandchildren: Jonathan (Tiffany) Straub, Joshua Straub, KayDee Straub all of Grand Forks, ND and Shaelyn Johnson of Fargo, ND; three great granddaughters: Annabelle Straub, Josephine Straub, Kaitlyn Straub all of Grand Forks, ND; sibling, Theodore “Ted” Johnson of Texas; along with many in laws, nieces, nephews and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Sidney and Edith (Edi) Matthews and one great granddaughter, Addison Straub.
A Memorial Service will take place at 1:00PM at Amundson Funeral Home on Friday, November 1, 2024. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Memorial Park North Cemetery.
