John Andrew Davis, age 83 of Grand Forks, died on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Altru Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Forks. Visitation will be held on Wednesday beginning at 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Amundson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Calvary South Cemetery in Grand Forks. Military Honors were provided by the Grand Forks VFW Post #1874 and the ND Military Honors.

John Andrew Davis, a son of James Patrick and Gertrude (Cichos) Davis, was born on June 19, 1935 in Crary, ND. He was one of nine children, four brothers and four sisters; he grew up and attended school in Crary, ND. On October 6, 1954 John entered the US Army and served during the Korean War, was honorably discharged on October 9, 1956. He returned to Devils Lake, ND and attended junior college before moving to Grand Forks where he attended UND studying to be a teacher. John started his career as welder/ironworker before he could finish his degree.  In 1959, he married Marjorie Alwin at the courthouse in Grand Fork, ND and they had six children, two sons and four daughters. They started a truck farm south of Grand Forks that John kept up until his death. They divorced in 1974. On October 6, 1975, John married Joann Kowalczik at the courthouse in Grand Forks, ND and they had two daughters. He continued to travel around the Midwest working on missile silos and various structural projects until he retired. John continued to make Grand Forks his home until his death.

John loved to spend time in his garden and tending to his flowers. He was a member of the Grand Forks American Legion and the VFW. John was also a member of the Military Order of the Cootie, (honor degree of the VFW) where he served as the Seam Squirrel, Grand Commander of ND, 10th District Council, and was the current seam squirrel for Pup tent 10. Later in life, John’s Catholic faith was very important to him and he was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Forks.

He is survived by his wife Joann at home; his two sons,  John (Kim) Davis, Las Vegas, NV; Paul (Lori) Davis, Bismarck, ND;  five Daughters,  Lori (John) Ayala, Commerce City, CO; Roxanne (Chill) Yee, Carmichael, CA; Michelle Azling, San Clemente, CA; Janelle (Donald) Doyle, Crookston, MN; and Joan (Erick) Houde, Grand Forks, ND; two Step-daughters, Jeanne Kowalczik, Grand Forks, ND; and Jackie (Robert) Janorschke, Euclid, MN; seven grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, one great-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters, Jane, Jeanette, Joann, and Judith and one brother, Joseph.

John was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one daughter, and one grandson.
