Joann L. Moreland

August 27, 1938 — July 19, 2021

Joann L. Moreland, 82, Grand Forks and formerly of Inkster, ND, went to meet Jesus Monday, July 19, 2021, surrounded by her family, in Valley Senior Living on Columbia.

Joann L. Hoye was born August 27, 1938 in McVille, ND, the daughter Oscar and Gunhild (Brandvold) Hoye. She was raised and educated in Inkster and graduated from Inkster High School.

Joann married Stanley Moreland on April 21, 1956 at Inkster. They lived in Fargo, ND for a brief time before returning to Inkster to farm and raise their family. Joann was an integral part of the farm. She toiled tirelessly along side Stan on the land her grandfather homesteaded.  In addition, she worked as a cook at the Inkster School and drove beet trucks for many years. Joann also worked in the Inkster Post Office, a job she truly loved. She retired after 20 years of service as Postmaster.

Joann was an avid gardener and provided numerous vegetables and fruits for her extended family. Joann was a dedicated member of Faith Lutheran Church of Inkster. She loved having coffee and lunch with friends, Bible study, and following the activities of her grand children and great grand children. She treasured the time spent with family at Big Sandy Lake near Mcgregor, MN.

Joann is survived by her 3 daughters, Karen (Robert) David, Kathy (Dr. William) Klava, and Kim (Jeffrey) Yon. Joann is also survived by her grandchildren, Amanda (Jeff) Groven, Jerod (Jennifer) Klava. Brent Klava. Tavia (Michael Grenier) Chapa, Kaleena (Nathan) Hopkins, Brandy (Luke) Wasick, Annie Christianson, and Shalana (Brandon) Brueckner. Great Grandchildren Cooper and Chloe Groven. Wyatt, Emmy, and Matilda Klava, and Nevaeh Yon. Ryder and Harrison Grenier. Tyerney, Orrin and Jude Hopkins. Lexis, Michael, and Mathis Wasick. Braden Christianson, and Elle’ and Tucker Brueckner. Joann is survived by her sister-in-law Marjorie (Donald) Weister of Kearney, NB, brother-in-law Wade Moffett of Inkster, ND, and many nieces and nephews, as well great nieces and nephews

Joann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley; brother, Orward (Marjorie) Hoye; sister, Adele (Seymour) Genow; nephews, Donald Moffett and Dallas Moreland; and nieces, Debra Gernow and Ellen (Chris) Schulz. Also, brothers-in-law Elwin, Melvin, and Russell Moreland and spouses. Sisters-in-law, Verna Moffett and Delores DeMoss.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, July 30, 2021 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. Visitation will be Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 5 to 7 PM with a 7 PM Prayer service in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in the Inkster Cemetery. Arrangements are with Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Memorials can be directed to Turtle River Ministries or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
