Jewel L Schneider

September 23, 1946 — September 10, 2019

Jewel L Schneider, 72, of Grand Forks, died on September 10, 2019 at Valley Senior Living on Columbia.

She was born September 23, 1946 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, to Bennie and Gwendolyn (Pasco) Warnke. Jewel was raised on a farm in Emerado, North Dakota. She graduated from Larimore High School in 1964, and attended Mayville State College for one year, pursuing a career as a teacher. Due to unforeseen circumstances, she was not able to complete her college education. Jewel worked at C&R Laundry and Cleaners, of Grand Forks, for 6 years, followed by a career that became one of her life-long passions, childcare. Jewel became a home childcare provider, nourishing children and families with love, discipline, and tasty home cooked food until she retired in 2016.

Jewel enjoyed reading, cooking and baking, shopping, playing games, and volunteering at church and a local food pantry. Jewel became a born-again Christian in her early 20’s, and she lived her life in an effort to tell others about Jesus Christ. One would not be surprised to have been invited to church by her or to find her teaching Sunday school, or heading up a project such as Operation Christmas Child. This life of service, done with the love of Christ is her legacy.

Jewel was married to Nicholas James Schneider July 23, 1970, and several years later they divorced. Surviving are her daughter Gwen (Wayne) Puckett of Grand Forks; three grandchildren, Melody (Matthew) Sebald, Alejandro Puckett, and Javier Puckett, all of Grand Forks; two brothers, Wayne (Linda) Warnke and Lynn (Debbie) Warnke of Emerado; and 6 sisters, Gloria Hayden of Emerado, Twila (Brad) Vettel of Arvilla, Shelia (Jim) Dybas of Grand Forks, Sharon (David) Bakke of Mekinock, Sonda (Duane) Balcom, of Powell  Butte, OR, and Lila (Jim) Jarman of Larimore; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jewel was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters; Bonnie Aarhus and Susan Tveten.
