Jeanne Puffe

Jeanne Puffe, 88, Grand Forks, died Saturday, August 3, 2024 at her home.

Jeanne Elaine Bartz was born March 13, 1936 to William and Emma (Polley) Bartz in rural McIntosh, MN. She was made a Child of God in Holy Baptism on March 14, 1936 at her home in McIntosh. Jeanne has been a faithful member of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod all of her life.

Jeanne graduated from McIntosh High School and attended Concordia College (University), St. Paul, MN, earning a two year teaching certificate. She taught in Big Rapids, MI.

She was united in Holy Marriage to Lyle Puffe on July 12, 1958 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in McIntosh, MN. Lyle and Jeanne settled in Grand Forks in 1963 where they became faithful members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was an active member of the LWML and other church organizations. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Two girls and two boys, per Lyle, “Planned parenthood”: Shiela, Shelly, William, and Thomas.

In 1978 Jeanne finished her bachelor degree in Home Economics and earned Library Science credits. She taught in Grand Forks Junior High Schools for 16 years, retiring in 1994. On retirement, Jeanne and Lyle enjoyed traveling. She also loved to quilt and make baby blankets for family, church, and charity. She always said no baby should be without.

Jeanne entered God’s Kingdom of Glory on August 3, 2024 at home under the care of Hospice, surrounded by her loving family.

Jeanne is survived by her husband of 66 years, Lyle; daughters, Shiela (Mike) Underwood, Shelly (Mark) Bliese; sons, William Puffe, and Thomas (Karen) Puffe; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a multitude of extended family. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and ten siblings.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2024 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Forks. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service on Thursday, August 8, 2024 in Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service in the church.

Interment will be in Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks. In lieu of flowers, please direct all memorials to Missouri Synod LWML mites, or Shepherd Hill Retreat at St. John, ND.
