She was born June 17, 1937, at McVille, Nelson County, North Dakota. Jean was the daughter of Sever and Clara (Larson) Gilbertson. She graduated from Petersburg High School. She attended Mayville State College where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business education and a minor in library science. She also attended UND for graduate studies work. She held a life-time certificate in education. Jean was the former clerk of court and deputy clerk of district court at Lakota, Nelson County, North Dakota. She taught students at Edmore Public School in Edmore, North Dakota. She was a substitute librarian at Langdon Elementary and High School and a Sunday School teacher. Jean was employed at Nature’s Corner, a Shaklee distributor. She was a member of many organizations including the National Education Association and the Cavalier County Historical Society. She married Frank Kruger on July 22, 1972, in Lom Lutheran Church in rural Niagara, ND. They have three children: Kathy, Michael, and Ann Marie. They raised their children on the family farmstead near Langdon, ND where they lived for many years. Jean loved visiting with those around her. She enjoyed taking pictures of her family and friends where there was always a need for a second photo. She loved music and never missed an event in which her children participated. She loved to bake and enjoyed sharing her cooking. Jean would tell you how much she loved you and she would part company with a wave of her hand signing I love you. Jean is survived by: her daughter, Kathy and her husband Jim Hann and their three children Grace, Cole, Allison; son, Michael and his wife Amy and their three children Sam, Ava, Katelyn; daughter, Ann Marie; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents; brothers, Goodwin, Glen and Dale; sisters, Carol Slettebak and June Jenson, her twin. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023, at 3:00 p.m., with visitation at 2:00 p.m. at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Jean wanted her funeral “to be a happy occasion filled with lots of music and happiness and great scripture telling the message that God is great.” Burial will be in the spring at Redeemer Lutheran Cemetery north of Dresden, ND In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Valley Senior Living, 2900 14th Ave South, Grand Forks, ND 58201. Their dedicated care and service to Jean over 7 ½ years is sincerely appreciated.
