Jean J. Haus, 81, Grand Forks, ND, passed away Friday, October 25, 2024 in Valley Senior Living on Columbia.

Jean was raised in Grand Forks. She graduated from Central High School in 1961 and was very proud of her role as drum major for the band. She often shared the story of her music teacher’s kindness and compassion in helping her out financially with the attire needed. Mr. Pond was grateful for Jean’s dedication.

On July 27, 1963, Jean married James P. Haus at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Grand Forks. They celebrated their 50th anniversary together with their children and were married for a total of 52 years! Jean loved her home to be decorated and took pride in her yard, always keeping flowers and pretty sculptures and lighted figurines around.

Jean was a loving mother, organized homemaker, and when her children were grown, she took on the adventure of owning a business, Grand Forks Floral. Jean also worked in the early years for Joanne’s Fabric and was a talented seamstress, sewing clothes for her family. Even after retiring from her business, she continued to be active and did janitorial work for Red River High School and for NDVS School for the Blind. She was a hard worker and was recognized for her dedication.

Jean and her sister, Diane enjoyed being a part of the Red Hat Society at the Sons of Norway in Grand Forks. They often made trips to Minot for Norsk Hostfest and their favorite performer was Daniel O’Donnell. If you played a good song for Jean, she would throw her arms up in the air, start clapping, and start dancing around. She had an innocent, child-like spirit about her.

Jean loved gambling and enjoyed going to Thief River Falls to spend time at the casino with her twin brother, James. Jean also loved to fish and enjoyed years of memories at the cabin on Island Lake, Lengby, MN. One of the family’s favorite stories was about Jean and King, (the family dog) taking shelter under the table during bad storms. She was serious about her storm shelters, even though everyone loved to tease her. Jean had a very sweet sense of humor and enjoyed the playful bantering with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Steven (Pamela) Haus, Thompson, ND, Judy (James) Richardson, East Grand Forks, MN, Keith (Tammy) Haus, Grand Forks, and Christopher (Joan) Haus, West Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Chasidy, Dylan, Brady, Tyler, Samantha (Corey), Ashley (Kyle), Lindsey, Alexus, Joshua (Aubrey), and Avery; great grandchildren, Coltyn, Brixon, Finley, Everlynn, Theodore, Henry, Jaclynn, Jameson, and Hallie; twin brother, James Olson; sister, Diane Drees.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim on November 7, 2015; daughter, ClaraVi; mother, Viola Sorenson; and a brother, Wayne Sorenson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Friday, November 1, 2024 at Holy Family Catholic Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the funeral mass in the church. Burial will be in Calvary North Catholic Cemetery, Grand Forks.

Jean’s family would like to express special thanks to the staff at the Almonte neighborhood of Valley Senior Living on Columbia.
