James “Jim” Skold, 90, Lisbon, formerly of Grand Forks, died Sunday, July 1, 2018 in Parkside Lutheran Nursing Home, Lisbon, ND.
Jim was born June 11, 1928, to Einer and Esther (Johnson) Skold in Wahpeton, ND. The family moved to Petersburg then to Mekinock in 1939. Jim graduated from Gilby High School in 1948.
In June of 1950, Jim joined the US Air Force. He proudly served his country as an airplane mechanic and as an MP while serving in Germany.
After his honorable discharge, he went to work for Vilandre Heating in Grand Forks. He worked as a H-vac technician for 30 years. He was married to Kathy for a time. Jim drove the courtesy car for Willcox and Malm before driving the parts truck for Bumper to Bumper until 2007.
In 2007, Jim started wintering in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas and spending the summers at the cottage on Golden Lake in North Dakota. In 2014, due to his health, Jim moved into a nursing home in Mission, Tx. He then moved to the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon, in 2015.
Jim loved racing. He would watch NASCAR, races at the River City Speedway, and he would travel with friends to Brainerd, MN for the drag races. Jim was also loved to fish and spending time near the lake.
Jim is survived by his bother Wally; sisters: Eleanor Dahlin, Eloise (Virgil) Gibson and many nieces, nephews, great nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Merlyn.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 at Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
