James (Jim) O. Evenson, 90, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2021 in his home in Alexandria, MN after a short battle with lung cancer. James was born on May 28, 1931 to Oscar and Marjorie (Long) Evenson in Drayton, ND where he attended school. He was a talented athlete playing football, basketball, baseball and a member of the Class of 1950. In 1952 he enlisted in the US Marine Corp and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, San Diego, California, before serving in Korea during the Korean War. James married Joan Carlson on November 28, 1954. Together they raised two daughters, Wendy and Jill, in Drayton, Glasston, and Grand Forks. James was employed in the grain industry and became the superintendent at the ND State Mill and Elevator until his retirement in 1995. Jim enjoyed many hours hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was a member of the American Legion for 66 years and the United Lutheran Church.
James is survived by his wife, Joan, children, Wendy (Ray) Watts, Jill Morseth (Jack Shide), and Dale Morseth. Grandchildren: Stefanie (Terry) Helmer, Jamilee Morseth, Tracy Morseth (Greg Werner), Lindsay (David) Hudson, and Cory (Teela) Watts. Great grandchildren: Silas and Jaycie Helmer, Samuel and Summer Sather, Camden and Porter Hudson, Kennedy Johnson and Colton Watts. Siblings: Leona (Dale) Edblom and Eldred (Penny) Evenson and sisters-in-law, Delores Evenson, Donna Carlson, and Barbara Carlson. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Patricia Anderson, Geraldine Evenson, Gloria Nelson, Robert Evenson, George D. Evenson and Marlys Evenson.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 19th at 11 am at United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut, Grand Forks, ND followed by military honors and lunch. Burial will be held at a later date. A visitation will be held Monday, October 18th from 5-7 pm with a 6:30 pm prayer service at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND.
