Isabel G. Lebacken

April 28, 1934 — May 12, 2020

Isabel G. Lebacken, 86, Grand Forks, ND, died Tuesday, May 12, 2020 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.

Isabel Gulson, the daughter of Gilbert and Sarah (Frette) Gulson, was born April 28, 1934 in Grand Forks, ND.   She attended Americus #23 School and graduated from Reynolds High School in 1952.  Isabel married Carrol Lebacken on October 25, 1952 at Walle Lutheran Church, Rural Thompson, ND.  They made their home at rural Reynolds, ND until moving to Grand Forks in 1996.  She was a member of Reynolds Lutheran Church.

Isabel was a person who was not only an amazing farm wife, she was of service to her community, church, friends and family. No title is adequate to express her ability in caring for others, regardless of their station in life. Her faith in the Lord was shown through actions, hard work, charity and encouragement.  Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren yearned to be in her presence. There are no words to express the loss we feel, yet we carry on to honor her by attempting to maintain her legacy of simple service which equals monumental outcomes.  She changed lives and was who she was wherever she went. Blessed be the memory of Isabel – Wife, Mother, Grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all.

Isabel is survived by her husband of 67 years, Carrol, Grand Forks;  a son, Bob (Jackie) Lebacken;  a daughter, Ruth (Robert) Turner, Grand Forks;  grandchildren, Joey (Paula) Ricke, Tim Ricke, Adam Ricke, Kat Thompson, Andie Hanson, Alex Hanson, Anthony (Jakarta) Turner, Natalie (Jonathan) Walters, Sarah (Alex) Conover;  great-grandchildren, Taylor Jo Ricke, August Turner, and Clarence Walters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ordean Gulson; and a sister-in-law, Bernice Kjorvestad.

Private Graveside Services will be in Americus Cemetery, Reynolds, North Dakota.  A Public Memorial Service will be held at a later date.  Memorials are preferred to the Community Veterans Park, Reynolds, ND or the Northlands Rescue Mission, Grand Forks.
