Inez Luella Dahlgren (Jasmer) passed away at age 92, Friday, December 31, 2021 at Woodside Village’s Heartland neighborhood, in Grand Forks.
She was born on October 3, 1929 on a farm near Park River, the youngest of 9 children. Inez was the daughter of Otto Willhelm (Bill) Jasmer and Clara Jasmer (Troftgruben). Growing up on a farm with eight siblings meant there was never a dull moment, with lots to do with farming, as well as some time to play in the woods, ride her horse, and enjoy country life. She graduated from high school in Park River, North Dakota.
Inez Married John W. Dahlgren on July 24, 1948. They moved to Grand Forks where John was working after having completed 1 year at Aakers Business College.
Inez was primarily a homemaker and devoted herself to maintaining a spotless house with homemade goodies available whenever someone stopped by. The homemade cookies, brownies, bars, cake and pies were a staple after every meal including breakfast. You weren’t done eating breakfast until you had a cookie, a tradition her daughter has kept up.
She was an expert seamstress making almost all of her own clothes, as well as clothes for her children. When they built a new home she made all of the draperies herself. While most people couldn’t believe she had taken on such a task, they were even more shocked when afterwards she decided to take a drapery making class.
Inez was active with Grand Forks Humane Society for many years. She acted as treasurer, as well as fostering feral kittens. Everyone required to wear heavy leather gloves when handling the cats, except for her. She was truly the “Cat Whisperer” having any kitten tamed within 24 hours.
She also had an incredible green thumb and thoroughly enjoyed her many houseplants, including her constantly blooming 75 year old family Christmas cactus.
Inez moved to Woodside Village almost 15 years ago when she was no longer able to walk or stand. She was a long time resident of the Heartland neighborhood, where she became very close to many of the staff members. She enjoyed the cooking activities, and especially the art activities.
Inez was a very good artist, especially drawing horses. She would amaze staff with her ability to sketch out a horse quickly and expertly. At one time she could even cut out a perfect horse without having to draw it first.
She is survived by daughter, Kathy Rood (Doug), 4 grandchildren, Cher Hansen (Scott), Chris McCreedy (Claire), Betsy Hoff (Mike), and Nic McCreedy (Kari), and 7 great-grandchildren, Ashley Hansen, Adrian Schroeck, Hailey Hansen, Hunter Hansen, Ryan McCreedy, Shophie McCreedy, and Connor Hoff. She is also survived by 41 nieces and nephews.
Inez was preceded in death by her husband, John Dahlgren, her son Ken Dahlgren, by her parents, her eight siblings, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be made to Circle of Friends Animal Shelter.
