Ida L. Heinze, 96, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at Altru
Hospital.
Ida Loretta Fiebiger was born on August 12, 1923 in Aneta, ND on the family farm. She was
one of eleven children of Edward and Mary (Zimperich) Fiebiger. She attended school in Jessie,
ND and worked odd jobs to support herself for room and board allowing her to attend and
graduate high school in Cooperstown, ND.
On June 20, 1944, Ida married Henry C. Heinze at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Jessie, ND.
They made their home in Valley City, ND having two children before moving to Grand Forks.
Ida and Henry were married for 43 years before Henry’s passing on January 29, 1988. Ida
worked for The Woolworth’s Corporation in Valley City and Grand Forks for 25 years.
Following the closure of the Grand Forks Woolworth store she worked for the Grand Forks
County Courthouse cleaning offices. She also worked for Hugo’s in their Deli and Bakery
Departments before finally retiring.
She loved spending time with her friends and family, and especially walking at the mall and
neighborhood along with going to the casino in her retirement years. Ida took pride in her yard
while continuously attending to her flowers, etc. She always enjoyed visitors and was quick to
have a snack available any time. When her grandchildren were young, they would spend at least
a week with her every summer and again when they were in college, they lived with her while
attending school. She was especially fond of her great-grandchildren with whom she would
watch on occasion and have pranks played on her with toy snakes, bugs and dinosaurs which
would startle her especially at bedtime when she “found” them.
Left to mourn her passing are her daughter in-law, Georgia Heinze of Alamogordo, NM;
daughter Renee (Leonard) Zilka of Grand Forks, ND; three grandchildren, Karen (Dan)
Kropovage of Alamogordo, NM, Jason (Kristin) Zilka of Grand Forks, ND, and Erin Zilka of
Fargo, ND; four great-grandchildren Sarah, Emily, Robin, and Jacob Zilka all of Grand Forks,
ND; and one sister, Florence Gisvold of Carrington, ND, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Henry; son, James; parents, Edward and Mary;
sisters Mary, Rose, Martha, and Annie, and brothers, Edward, Lawrence, Frank, Richard, and
William.
