Helen Claire Hetletved

Helen Claire (Sathre) Hetletved, 74, of Grand Forks, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at her home in Grand Forks.

Helen was born Oct. 15, 1946, in Bismarck, ND, the daughter of Helmer C. and Evelyn I. (Skogen) Sathre.

Helen grew up in Tuttle, ND where she was a member of the English Lutheran Church, attended grade school and graduated from Tuttle High School.  In 1964/65 attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN for one year.  In 1965 through 1967 she finished her education at Bismarck Junior College in Bismarck, ND.

Helen married Clois L Hetletved Jr. on 7/23/1967 while he was on leave from the Army before going to Vietnam for one year.

Helen moved to Moorhead, MN and lived with her sister Susie and brother-in-law Dennis Leno.  She worked as a secretary for a Savings and Loan bank until Clois returned from Vietnam.  In September of 1968 Helen & Clois moved to Fort Dix, NJ where they finished their commitment to the US Army in March of 1969.  They then moved to Carrington, ND where Helen worked for the local nursing home.  The fall of 1969 they moved to Des Moines, IA where Helen worked for Iowa Des Moines National Bank while Clois attended College.  After Clois graduated they moved to Grand Forks, ND where Helen worked with the banking industry until she retired in the fall of 1997.

Helen enjoyed bowling, fishing, golf, playing cards and occasional trips to the casinos.  She also liked to travel around the country by car.  In March of 2017 we left Grand Forks and traveled to the east coast, Helen walked in the ocean at Atlantic City, from there we headed south with many stops before reaching Gulf Shores, AL where she again walked out in the ocean.  From there we went west with many stops before we arrived in Phoenix, AZ.  We spent a few days there and then traveled to San Diego, CA where Helen again enjoyed the ocean.  We finally headed for home with a stop in Las Vegas and then 9,500 miles later we were home in Grand Forks.

Helen is survived by her husband Clois, sons Dustin (Bethany), Lee (Clois III) (Jamie), granddaughters Morgan, Jane & Presely a grandson Peyson.  Sisters Margot Manley (Tony), Sharol Felch, Lonna Meier (Dennis), Brother Hal Sathre (Lori).  Sister-in-laws Charlene Falk (John), Geniel Schell (Dale).  Many nieces & nephews.  Helen was preceded in death by her parents, sister Susie Leno (Dennis), & brother-in-law Darwin Felch.  Also, her mother & father-in-law Clois Sr. & Judith Hetletved.    

A Celebration of life service will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Tuttle Park in Tuttle, ND.

**In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Helen’s name to Sharon Lutheran Church, Red River Valley Hospice or a local charity of your choice.
