Kunigunda “Gundy” Gray, 86, Grand Forks, ND, died Saturday, March 2, 2019 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.
Gundy was born July 25, 1932 in Erlangen, Germany, the daughter of Hans and Emilie Dietz. She was raised and educated in Germany.
Gundy married Garnett Gray in February of 1949 while he was serving in the United States Air Force in Germany. In 1951 they moved to Great Falls, MT, and from there they were stationed in Madrid, Spain and in Altus, Oklahoma before moving to Grand Forks in 1967. Gundy worked for more than 20 years at the UND concession stands at the Memorial Stadium, the Hyslop Sports Center and the hockey stadiums starting at “the barn”.
A very proud accomplishment of Gundy’s life was when she became a citizen of the United States in 1954. Her primary focus was always her family. She would often say that she was so fortunate that all four of her children lived in the area and were involved in each other’s lives. Gundy, in her younger years, was involved in league bowling but her passion was playing duplicate bridge and ran the bridge club for 30+ years.
Survivors include her children, Barry (Jacky) Gray, Petersburg, ND, Allen Gray, Bryan (Kristi) Gray, and Robin (Steve) Turner, all of Grand Forks; grandchildren, Alisa (Kevin) Hessinger and Angela (Lewis) Schock, both of Bismarck, ND, Michael (Chelsea) Gray, Jayce Turner, Austin Gray, Reed Turner, Mackenzie Vacura, and Logan Vacura, all of Grand Forks and Chloe Omlid, Kenmore, WA; 6 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Lois Gray, Minneapolis, MN and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garnett; siblings, August, Martha and Helen; and by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in law.
