Glendora “Glen” (Boling) DeGroot was called home to heaven on July 11, 2020 at Sanford Hospital, surrounded by her loving daughters. Glen was born on September 24, 1938 in Omaha, NE. She moved to New Jersey after graduating High School and was united in marriage to Robert DeGroot on November 25, 1961. They had three children together, son Robert, and daughters Robyn and Renee. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She was a mom who loved when all the neighborhood kids came over and she welcomed them with open arms. After being a stay at home mom for several years, she went to work for the Fair Lawn, NJ school district. She retired in 1994, and moved back to Omaha, NE with her daughter Robyn and mother in law Alice later that year. She worked as a church secretary at United Church of Christ in Omaha until she again retired. In December of 2000, she moved up to Grand Forks, ND. Never one to sit still, she worked as a church secretary at Federated Church in Grand Forks, until she was no longer able to work.
While raising her family, she would sew many of her own clothes, drapes, Halloween costumes for her kids, and the matching family holiday attire that was so popular in the 70’s. She learned how to quilt from her son Robb, and made many quilts and seasonal wall hangings, until her fingers could no longer stitch. For the past few years, she enjoyed researching her family tree and genealogy and wanted to gather this information to share with all her family members.
Glendora was a remarkable woman who led a fascinating life, and those lucky enough to hear her stories will treasure them always. Of all the things Glendora did throughout her life, she was most proud of being Grandma to “her boys”, and she cherished the time she got to spend with them.
Glen was preceded in death by her father Hubert Boling, mother Kitty Boling-Wiley, beloved step-father Roy Wiley, her husband Bob, her son Robb, her brother Hubert “Beau” Boling, and sisters Darlene Dimmett, Donna Keller, and Viola Tatreau-Foley. Left to mourn her passing are daughter Robyn DeGroot of Grand Forks; daughter Renee Carlson and son-in-law Jason Carlson of East Grand Forks, and her grandsons, Brayden Carlson and Gavin Carlson; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Glen’s life will be held with friends and family at a later date. Should you wish to do so, please donate in Glendora’s memory to the Grand Forks Senior Center, our countries veterans, or any charity that is special to you.
