Geri J. Alberts

October 15, 1958 — September 3, 2023

Long time Grand Forks resident, Geri Jeanne Alberts, recently passed away unexpectedly at home at the age of 64.

Geri, was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on October 15th, 1958 to Earl Dwayne and Betty Lou Alberts. She was the 2nd of three children. The family moved around a lot as her dad pursued earning college degrees and taught at various institutions of higher learning. Geri lived in Lincoln, Nebraska; Mankato, Minnesota; Boulder, Colorado; Rapid City, South Dakota; and finally settled in Grand Forks.

Geri graduated from Red River High School in 1977. She left Grand Forks for Moorhead, Minnesota for a few years in order to get a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing which she received in 1992. Upon receipt of her degree she returned to Grand Forks. Geri liked sports and was an avid softball player in her teens through her 30’s.

Geri owned a real estate appraisal business, Alberts Appraisal Service, which she operated in and around Grand Forks County for many years. She also did bookkeeping for Grand Forks Blue Line Club. Geri enjoyed antiques and had a part-time antique/furniture business at a couple of the local venues. She loved to drive by homes looking for old pieces of abandoned furniture and then finding a way to repurpose them. For the past 10 years Geri worked as an associate for Walmart. She especially enjoyed working with the guys in the automotive repair area. She loved to tell jokes and stories to her co-workers and friends.

Geri often did volunteer work. She worked with Meals on Wheels and most recently she worked and volunteered at the VFW. The VFW was especially important to her as her dad, Earl, was a veteran of the Korean War.

Geri was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother Terry and his wife Sandy who live in Eugene, OR; her brother Brad and his wife Loree and their children Lexi and Tanner with his soon to be bride Madi of Grand Forks.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
