Gerald John Gefroh, 78, of Grand Forks, died on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at Altru Hospital. Gerald (Jerry) John Gefroh was born on January 8, 1943 in Grand Forks to John and Ida (Danielson) Gefroh. He was raised in Grand Forks, where he attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, and Central High School. Following high school, Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. On July 26, 1962, Jerry was united in marriage to Marlys Torbenson. Together they had one daughter. Jerry and Marlys enjoyed bowling and playing cards with family and friends. Jerry was an over the road truck driver most of his life, working for International Transport and Cenex before retiring. Jerry attended St Mary’s Catholic Church. Through the years Jerry loved table pounding cards with his dad, brother and sister. He also enjoyed spending time with his sister putting together puzzles, going to the casino, and watching sports of all kinds. Jerry also enjoyed Friday morning coffee time at church. Jerry is survived by: his daughter, Julie (Todd) Hietala; 3 Grandchildren, Mattthew (Cassandra) Hietala, and Mackenzie and Macy Hietala; Great-granddaughter, Wrenleigh Hietala; Brother, Ray; Sister, Dianne Anderson; Nieces, Sherry Anderson, Cyndi Pearson, and Brenda Johnson; and Nephew, Brad Anderson. Jerry is preceded in death by: Marlys Gefroh, Brother-in-law Jack Anderson, Sister-in-Law Mary Gefroh, and Nephew Kevin Anderson. A private service is planned at a later date.
