George P. Litzinger, 79, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND after a long and courageous battle with numerous health issues.
George was born in Grand Forks, ND, on May 21, 1942, the son of Paul and Elizabeth (Feist) Litzinger. He grew up in Grand Forks and graduated from St. James. He served four years in the US Navy before his honorable discharge in 1964.
He married Barbara Beaton on September 9, 1967 and together they made their home in Grand Forks, raising two children; Becky and Jason.
George worked for UND for several years. In 1972 he started his career as a firefighter for the Grand Forks Fire Department serving 30 years and retiring in 2002.
He enjoyed golfing, fantasy football, watching westerns and spending time at the lake. He was a member of the EGF American Legion Post #157 as well as the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2 of ND.
George is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Becky (Aaron) Maifeld of Champlin, MN, Jason (Lorrie) Litzinger of Brooklyn Park, MN; grandchildren Carter and Emerson Maifeld, and Aiden and Farrah Litzinger; sister, Delores (Noel) Moore, Modesto, CA; brothers, David (Dianne) Litzinger, Mesa, AZ, James (Susan) Litzinger, Grand Forks, Richard Litzinger, Emerado, ND, Joseph (Susi) Litzinger, Grand Forks, Paul Jr. Litzinger, Grand Forks, Michael (Kristi) Litzinger, Devils Lake, John Litzinger, Grand Forks, and Jeffery Litzinger and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul “Cookie” and Elizabeth Litzinger and sister, Paulene Stene.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept 11th, 2021 at Amundson Funeral Home.
Visitation: Friday, Sept 10th, 2021 from 5 -7:00 p.m. at Amundson Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
Burial with military honors will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Grand Forks, ND, following the funeral service.
