Gary K. Vacura, Sr., East Grand Forks, MN, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022 surrounded by his loving family in his home. 

Gary Kenneth Vacura was born October 5, 1941 in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Vlady and Madeline (Schneeweis) Vacura. He was raised in East Grand Forks, MN and graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High School. Gary married Shirley Nelson in 1961 and had four children, Sherri, Gary, Jr., Kimberly and Cory.

Gary worked for Pillsbury Co. and later for Colburn’s School Supply. He also worked as a custodian for Grand Forks Public Schools at Valley Junior High, Kelly Elementary and West Elementary. Gary was a hard worker and usually held two jobs at the same time. He established a company called Signworks where he created and sold signs. He enjoyed working with computers as a hobby, but was also a football and basketball fan.

Survivors include his children, Gary Vacura, Jr., Grand Forks. Kimberly (Scott) Richter, Grand Forks, and Cory (Tina) Vacura, Grand Forks; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; siblings, Jake (Carolyn) Vacura, Visalia, CA, Ginger Bestland, Grand Forks, and Nancy Belgarde, East Grand Forks, MN.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Sherri; and brothers, Donnie and Richard.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the funeral home. Following the funeral service, a reception and meal will take place at the East Grand Forks American Legion, 1009 Central Ave NW. Burial will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery of Grand Forks in the late spring.
