Gary Raymond Iverson, 78, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, died on Sunday, April 9, 2023, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Eagle's Club in East Grand Forks, Minnesota.
Gary was born in Grand Forks on April 3, 1945, to Franz and Irene (Haugen) Iverson. He received his education in Grand Forks, where he graduated from Grand Forks Central in 1963. He attended college in Mayville and Bismarck where he played both baseball and basketball before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam.
In 1968, Gary was united in marriage to Barbara Nero. The couple moved to Denver where he studied bookkeeping and accounting. It was in Denver that their son Steven was born.
In 1987, Gary married Linda Norman. He worked as a warehouse manager in Atlanta, Georgia.
Gary loved golf, bowling and tailgating and attending UND Football and hockey games. He was an incredible all-around athlete but was best known for having won the National Marbles Championship in 1958.
Gary was an active member of the Eagles Club of East Grand Forks. He loved to play bingo, work crossword puzzles and play “solo” scrabble. He cherished his time at the “Friday Roundtable” with his brothers and sisters and never missed an episode of Young and the Restless, Jeopardy, or the opportunity to sip on a glass of fine scotch.
Nothing was more important to Gary than family.
Gary is survived by his sweetheart Renae Jopp of Grand Forks; son, Steven (Claire) Iverson of Stone Mountain, GA; daughter, Rebecca (Cha) Holmes of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Clint, Hollis, Smith and Stone; siblings, Phyllis “Toots” Weden, Jack (Carol) Iverson, Peggy (Bob) Gunderson, Rodney (Anita) Iverson and Bruce (Cyndi) Iverson; an aunt, Arlene Clemetson; and Renae’s family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda Iverson; siblings, Bill, Jim, Donnie and Bob; in-laws Bob Wedin and Cathy Iverson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The National Stuttering Association. or the 22Q Deletion Syndrome Foundation.
