Gary K Malm

Gary Karl Malm, 87, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, ND.

Gary was born on January 28, 1937, to Alfred and Hilma (Youngdahl) Malm in Grand Forks, ND. As a child, he grew up in Emerado, eventually moving to Grand Forks, where he attended and graduated from Central High School. After high school, he attended the University of North Dakota, earning a graduate degree in Education.

Gary then went on to serve in the United States Army from 1960- 1962. Once his service was complete, Gary found his way to Climax, MN, where he started teaching and met the love of his life, Carol. The two were married on August 14, 1965, in Climax, MN.

Gary and Carol moved the family back to Grand Forks, where he embarked on a 41-year teaching career, with positions at Valley Jr. High School and later, Central High School. Gary sincerely loved his family, teaching, and his beloved community. He was actively involved in several boards and committees that directly impacted Grand Forks Public Schools and Grand Forks County. Gary served on the Grand Forks Park Board, the Grand Forks Planning Commission, and most notably, the Grand Forks County Commission, as a Commissioner for nearly 28 years.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, his son Matthew Malm, his sister Mae Marie Blackmore, and his sister-in-law Cleone Malm. He is survived by his wife Carol Malm, brother Jon Malm, children Patty

{Ken) Dorsher, Perry (Liz) Malm, Erika {Cordell) Dietz, and daughter­ in-law Roanne Malm. Gary was blessed with nine grandchildren, including Ted (Mindy) Malm, Amanda Malm, Kai Malm, Jake Malm, Catherine Dorsher {Tyler), Kenzie Dorsher, Hannah Dietz, Will {Mackenzie) Dietz, and Kate Dietz, along with three great­ grandchildren Daxton, Evelyn, and Avery.

Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at United Lutheran Church>
 Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service. 
 Burial will be held in Memorial Park North Cemetery.
 In lieu of flowers, Gary wished for memorials to be given to United Lutheran Church and Valley Senior Living, both in Grand Forks, ND.
